Who is Warren Buffett: The Chairman of Berkshire Hathway?

Surely, you know who Warren Buffett is? The American stock market wizard made a fortune by investing via his company Berkshire Hathway. He gained worldwide fame by inadvertently pitting against Bill Gates for the world’s richest man title. With a wealth estimated to be more than $85.6 billion, he is considered the most successful investor in the world, of all time.


Warren Buffett is a notable philanthropist too, donating a great amount of his wealth to different philanthropic causes. He currently serves as the Chairman and CEO of his investment firm Berkshire Hathway. He is very influential in the stock market, with his opinion often causing massive swings in prices of an individual stock or asset.


Warren Buffett’s Childhood and Education


Mr Buffett was born in Omaha, Nebraska back in 1930. His father was a congressman, with whom the family shifted to Washington D.C. It’s the city where Buffett finished his elementary school. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1947.


Although he wanted to skip college to concentrate on his own business ventures, his father insisted on him to complete his bachelor’s. Warren Buffett enrolled in the Wharton School and then was transferred to the University of Nebraska. He was rejected by the Harvard Business School, to their loss it would seem now, and completed his masters at the Columbia Business School.


Assuming Berkshire


Through various partnership in different investment firms, Warren Buffett became a millionaire by January 1962. He merged different partnerships into one and purchased Berkshire Hathway, then a textile manufacturing firm. Over the years, Buffett changed the whole business for the company and moved it to the insurance sector and may other ventures.


Under this company, Buffet began to acquire stocks in various companies including Coca-Cola, which it still holds. Warren Buffett became a billionaire when he started selling Class A shares of Berkshire Hathway in the stock market in 1990.
