BBC Three: Can It Topple Best British TV Channels?

BBC Three: Can It Topple Best British TV Channels?

If you have forgotten about it already, BBC Three was a free-to-air British television channel operated by, of, course, BBC. The channel launched in 2003 and went on to charm the viewers with 70% original contents, most of which originated from the UK. In 2016, however, the channel ceased its operation and shifted its programming entirely to online, causing a lot of outrage.

Thankfully, BBC is once again considering the possibility of making BBC Three a linear television channel again. To that point, we look into the current most-watched British television channels, the likes of which BBC Three has to compete against for viewership.

Channel 4

At a time when the popularity of television is dropping amongst the millennials, Channel 4 seems to have got hold of the formula to keep them hooked! It’s a free-to-air television channel, which certainly helps. But the channel also has the creative punch in their programming. After all, it has to do something to get 83 per cent positive approval among millennials.

Film4

Another channel of the Channel 4 Television Corporation makes the list in the second position with its great viewership number and 72 per cent positive recommendation among all kinds of people. It started as a film production company and has been responsible for many great films produced in the UK. The free-to-air channel broadcasts films.

ITV

With a plethora of channels broadcasting everything from reality TV to sports, ITV completes the top three most-watched television channels in the United Kingdom. It also has a 72 per cent approval rating among its viewers.

With youth-friendly shows that have been sold and aired all over the world, BBC Three may just be the channel that takes a cut of the viewership from all of these television channels above. At least, the BBC seems to think so.
